Golf takes European COTY honours

Volkswagen’s new Golf 7 claimed victory in the European Car of the Year competition by a massive margin, winning over The Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ by 414 votes to 202. This win is the second the Golf has taken, with the Golf 3 winning the award back in 1992.

Do you reckon a Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet is a little over the top? Well, VW obviously doesn’t, and the German marquee has just revealed the details of the speedy drop-top, and perhaps it’s about time the firm did something a little silly.
Golf R leads seven-model onslaught

Volkswagen will be launching seven new Golf 7s over the next year, and while we won’t see all of them in South Africa, one we definitely will see is the one leading the charge – the Golf R. The range-topper will have VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system and no less than 213 kW. That’s 13 more than the current Golf R has overseas and a full 25 more than the 188 kW version we get here.
