GL-Klasse

Class act

Richard Macaskill

Mercedes-Benz calls all its cars ‘Letter(s)-Class’. Now, while class is a word that can’t necessarily be used to describe all Mercs (let’s face it, some are found wanting, though recent years have shown improvement across the board), if I was forced to choose one word to describe the new GL-Class, it would be exactly that. Class.

2202 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 1

Look Ma, no hands…

John Bentley

We’re doing 50 km/h and bearing down on a human form standing staunchly in the middle of the road. Our driver chats away, unconcerned, his hands barely touching the wheel, his right foot on the accelerator.

1502 Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG 1

Usually a story like this would include the words ‘claimed’, ‘supposedly’ or the like. However, this one’s a little different, because the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG will be the world’s most powerful production hot hatch ever built. Fact.

Mercedes-Benz launched one of the most exciting, and perhaps one of the most important, cars of the Detroit Motor Show. Enter the all-new CLA, an entry-level four-door coupé based on Merc’s new A-Class. Thankfully it’s remained true to the Concept Style Coupé, which was a well-received concept first shown in Los Angeles.

1101 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG 1

In one of the more substantial facelifts of recent years, Mercedes-Benz has given its E63 AMG a new lease on life. The facelift applies to both sedan and estate variants. Not only has Mercedes given the front end an extensive makeover (the rear less so), but there’s more power than there was before, too.

Launch Pad: Mercedes-Benz CLS250 CDI

Clean and classy

Richard Macaskill

Mercedes-Benz launched the all-new CLS a while back now, but something was missing from its arsenal. See, there was the then baby of the bunch 350, the awesome 500 and the insane 63 AMG, but they were all petrol models. Now, however, Mercedes has added a new baby to the CLS range, and this time it’s a diesel. Enter the CLS250 CDI, which is powered by Merc’s hugely impressive 2,2-litre twin-turbo oil-burner, which has no less than 150 kW of power and a mighty 500 Nm of torque on tap.
