Potent petrol SQ5 heads for Detroit

1101 Audi SQ5 1

The Detroit Motor Show will play host to the unveiling of a more powerful, petrol version of Audi’s SQ5 sports SUV. The engine is an upgraded version of the 3,0-litre supercharged motor from the S5. In the SQ5, it will have 260 kW and 469 Nm.

It’s aimed more at Americans, Russians and Chinese, but there are undoubtedly other contries in which the SQ5 will find itself at home – given South Africa’s penchant for performance SUVs, we might be one of them. On the performance front, it’ll get to 100 km/h in 5,3 seconds, with top speed limited to 250 km/h. Power will be sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed autobox.

Like the diesel SQ5, the 3,0-litre supercharged version has a ride height 30 mm lower than that of the standard car, as well as stiffer suspension. 20-inch alloys are standard.
