750 kW for new Mega Mac

While the successor to the iconic McLaren F1 is well into its testing and development process, details on the new car have remained largely under wraps. Now, though, a source has revealed the the Mega Mac will have in the region of 750 kW on tap.

Powered by a force-fed 3.8-litre V8, much like little brother the MP4-12C, the new F1 (it is not clear at this stage if that will indeed be the car’s name, but regardless of nomenclature, the new car is definitely the F1’s successor) will actually have 597 kW available. However, it will come with a kinetic energy recovery system, or KERS, and that will deliver an additional 149 kW when called upon, taking total output to a massive 746 kW. This might enable the new car to reach 100 km/h from standstill in less than 2.5 seconds, which would make it one of the quickest accelerating cars on earth.

The new F1 will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, but a recent report suggest that there will be a private unveiling of the highly anticipated car at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
